How to be the Queen of sheen

The shiny look has never appealed to me, I think it's easy to make an outfit look cheap and tacky when you're wearing a top that looks like it's made out of foil. The best way to wear them is understated. A metallic clutch paired with a relatively minimalist outfit is ideal. However, there are plenty of pieces you can wear that are subtle yet flattering and feminine. The iridescent, metallic fabrics were a big hit on the catwalks, seen at Burberry, Jonathan Saunders and Mary Katrantzou among others.

Landfill

I got a little bit excited when I got home from work, opened up the March ELLE issue and found that the number one song on their playlist for this month was Landfill by Daughter.

If you're a fan of Mumford and Sons then this will definitely be for you. But even if you're not, it's still worth a listen. It's a little deep for my usual taste, think Taylor Swift, but a little bit more suicidal.

Lust List

I think it's totally normal, as a girl who's into fashion, to have a mental (and now written) list of items, which I am in total awareness that I will never (ever, ever, ever, ever) be able to buy (in a million years). But that sure as hell will not stop me from finding them, loving them, wanting them and staring at them as though if I stare hard enough at my laptop screen, they'll appear in their beautiful, tangible form in front of me. So here they are...

Bright whites

One of the biggest trends of S/S 13 is the immaculate and pure colour white. I'm not saying you should go all snow queen on me or anything, because that is not a good look. And for those of you sat there, feeling rather regal, in your floor length white fur coat, and your fairy tale like white dress. Please get up and look in a mirror.

So rule number one: If you look like you've killed and skinned a polar bear, you're doing it wrong.

Lets see how white well and truly ruled the runway...

I think despite the essential boringness (that is a word) of the colour, using whites you can create an unquestionably beautiful outfit. I've hand picked some of my favourite pieces:

2 Sundress - Topshop - £36
3 Jacket - Lanvin - £1290
4 Tote - Anya Hindmarch - £250

Safely in the trenches

Okay, I think it's fair for me to say if your wardrobe doesn't have a trench coat in it then you may have a shopping trip to plan. It would be wrong for me to say you can never go wrong with a trench coat, because I'm sure, as with most things, you can go wrong. The phrase 'rarely go wrong' is more appropriate.

I'll just say this, if you can find that little rare moment where someone did go wrong, send it to me and I'll see if you're right. If you are I'll buy and send a Burberry Trench Coat to you, so you can make that rare moment a little smaller by turning into a commoner yourself. *I am not actually going to send you a Burberry Trench coat, for those rifling through photos right now*. I'll just show you how some people got it right, and I'm not short of them:

Opposite ends of the spectrum

There's something beautiful about monochrome. I don't really know what it is, whether it's the contrast between the two moods, or the minimalist approach to colouring. Either way, it's unmissable in the shops right now after the perpetual overhaul of the stuff on the catwalk at the S/S 13 shows. However, this isn't necessarily a trend for the whole outfit, just one piece will do, so pick yours here:

The easiest eyeliner ever

Yes, you guessed right. These are STICK-ON eye liners. As someone who wears liquid eye-liner pretty much every day, this is quite an exciting idea. If you are like me, and you spend forever trying to get your eyeliner to be perfectly symmetrical, worry about your eyeliner cracking during a long day or hard night partying, and you still haven't been able to perfect that 'dramatic eye' then Mily Makeup simple liners are perfect for you. They are re-usable, and fit perfectly along the eye lid. If you use two hands to apply and stretch out the liner, it becomes much easier to apply. All I can say is, goodbye inaccurately applied eye-liner that cracks and breaks off and hello to the perfect dramatic eye. They are also available in different colours, and flashes.

Model of the week

As suggested by the title, this will be a weekly thing. A great model doesn't just wear the clothes, she brings something fresh to the catwalk or shoot. She's instantly recognisable, and this doesn't always mean she's the most beautiful model on the runway.

So who better to award this to first other than the beautiful Cara Delevingne.

Cara is a 20 year old Londoner. She was the winner of 'model of the year' in 2012 at the BFAs. She's a well known Victoria's Secret Angel, best friends with Rita Ora and has a twitter account for her eyebrows (and other body parts if you wanted to know). And alongside all that, she's known for not taking herself quite too seriously. One of her first career successes was becoming the face of Burberry in 2011. She's walked for numerous shows since then, Oscar De La Renta, DKNY, and Burberry Prorsum are just three of her S/S '13 appearances.

Not another one (yawn)

I'm sure you, as many people who read fashion blogs ask, 'Why aren't there more of them?'

What? There must be around 7 thousand out there now, why wouldn't you want another one?

So maybe the blogosphere doesn't exactly need another fashion blog. But really, you'll be glad you came across this one. I'll start by telling you a little about myself:

  • I'm 18 years old
That's all for now, I'm also on a gap year, and one day far away I hope to be a doctor. For now however, I'll stick to taking pictures of clothes, reviewing the latest beauty products and generally venting about fashion.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy x
